It seems like Bvlgari/Bulgari is keeping up production of most Daniel Roth watches. Here is the unique Papillon Chronograph. Still with the existing movement, it now has Bulgari clothing.The wonderful watch originally unveiled by Daniel Roth in 2008, now it is back, now as a part of the Bulgari Daniel Roth collection. This was a really clever watch from Daniel Roth , and it does in fact tell the time. It has jumping hour display along with a minute indicator with a trick hand. That blue “spike” turns downward when used to indicate the minutes, and it twists back in when the next spike has a turn. So this isn’t a retrograde hand - even though it vaguely looks like one.

While the Bulgari version of the dial looks more complex, the Daniel Roth version was a bit more complex done with Geneva stripe polishing and some other textured elements. The Bulgari Papillon Chronograph watch has maintained a one-of-a-kind approach to short-time measurement of its predecessor. The central part of the dial demonstrates the minutes read off via an innovative mechanical device found on a bearing disc. The disc makes a full 360-degree rotation in two hours. It has two independent pivoting lozenge hands in turn gliding across a 180-degree segment with a graduated scale from 00 to 60 minutes.Though in the end they are very similar (just with different colors). While the Papillon Chronograph uses a case shape we have seen before it is larger at 44mm wide and done here in 18k rose gold.

The Calibre DR2319 movement is quite impressive, and this watch is made to be a serious chronograph. It starts with a Swatch Group made Frederic Piguet automatic movement with a Daniel Roth chronograph module. With dials measuring up to 12 hours, the chronograph has a column wheel and vertical clutch. Features often only found in the finest of mechanical chronograph movements.The first hand is found on the semi-circular segment. Its tip is pointing to the minutes. The second hand stays retracted almost throughout the disc rotation. When the first hand gets to the 55th minute on the display segment, the second hand extends through a gradual quarter-turn to be positioned parallel to the first hand on the 00 minute indication. The moment the minutes restart from zero, the first hand progressively retracts and stays in such position for the 55 minutes to come.The heart of the Bulgari Papillon Chronograph watch is the DR Calibre 2319, created by the manufacture. It represents an integrated Frederic Piguet mechanical self-winding chronograph movement with column-wheel and vertical coupling clutch, as well as a unique Daniel Roth complication module. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, the 38-jewel movement gives advantage of a 38-hour power reserve. Look for this Bulgari (ex Daniel Roth) watch out now. The calibre is housed within a slightly cambered and extremely comfortable double-ellipse case in rose gold that is water-resistant to 30 metres. A domed glareproofed sapphire crystal protects the split-level dial graced with alternating white-lacquered and black gold satin-brushed surfaces – the exclusive and appealing signature feature of the Bulgari/Bvlgari Collection driven by Daniel Roth calibres.

The movement boasts fine finishing, with circular graining on the mainplate and chronograph bridge, and Cotes-de-Geneve pattern on the bridge of the self-winding mechanism. The bridges are chamfered and polished,replica OMEGA, along with the screw heads. The steel movement parts that are open to view are satin-brushed, chamfered and polished.

The new offering from the Italian jewelry brand is totally identical to its predecessor. Technically, but not visually, that is. The new split-level dial with rose gold inserts looks refreshingly three-dimensional and surprisingly legible if compared to the original watch.The original Daniel Roth Papillon Chronograph featured white-on-white gold color combination that used to put some unwanted strain on owner’s eyes. A thick blue line for the minute retrograde indicator and all five hands of the same color didn’t help much to make the watch more readable: the watches replica dial still looked visually cluttered and messy.The double-ellipse case of the new Bulgari watch is sculptured in rose gold. The case features a slightly cambered profile, offering supreme comfort on the wrist. The case-construction is 30-meter water-resistant. The split-level dial is shielded by a domed antiglare sapphire crystal. The dial demonstrates alternating white-lacquered and black gold satin-brushed surfaces.The Bulgari Papillon Chronograph watch is secured to the wrist on an alligator leather strap fitted with a triple-blade folding clasp in rose gold.

The only problem here is the chronograph central second hand, which is totally lost on the brown and rose gold dial.Anyway, the new Bvlgari Papillon Chronograph in rose gold looks like a highly desirable timepiece that will look good on just about any wrist with just about any dress. I can easily imagine myself wearing one either with dark-colored business attire or with blue jeans and a white T-shirt.
